Word/Mac12.1.1: HOW did I get rid of the extra spacing when I do a manual line break???

From how your question is worded I'm not sure what you're really asking :)

The 10 pt Space After paragraph formatting introduced in the original
release of Word 2008 was removed by the 12.1 (SP1) update. Any new docs
created after that update was applied should not have the space added.

Docs created prior to applying that update contain a version of the Normal ¶
style that includes the spacing. They each have to be manually edited to
adjust the spacing. If that's what you need to do, modify the normal style
to remove the Space After property.

Conversely, if you would rather have the Space After property restored
modify the normal ¶ style to add the 10 pt after, check the Add to Template
box & confirm the change.

If this doesn't answer your question please rephrase more clearly.

BTW: You're several updates behind - Office is at 12.1.4 as of the last one.
