Word Merge hiccup

I have done and taught merging in Word since 1986. Now I need help. Word
2004 on a mac, goes to record 108 and returns "a field calculation error"
and that's all she wrote (OR MERGED). Why?? And how do I fix ASAP?

Hi Claudia -

I'm not an expert on mail merge, but it would seem to me that if Word is
able to merge 108 records without a hiccup that the problem may be with the
record source - possibly record 109. However, you mention nothing about the
nature of the data nor the source file itself.

Also, are you merging to labels, envelopes, form letters, catalogs...?

Are you you using anything other than the 'standard' name & address type of
fields - any Word fields involved (as opposed to Merge fields) - and if so,
What?

More complete information would be quite helpful.

Thanks all for help. There is nothing in the record source that is ONLY of
the fields I need for the merge that is munged up. Merging to a postcard
4-up format.

That is what is so frustrating - the ONLY "oddity" is <<nextRecord>> and it
is from an excel csv file. Maybe will try saving to a "newer" excel format
and see if it is "happier".

Now I'm confused :)

If the data is in an Excel file to begin with, why save it in another
format? You can simply specify the Excel file as the Data Source. The
conversion to a .csv may be what is causing the problem.

OK, so thanks to all the hints, that when added together told me what was
wrong - it didn't like the format of the excel sheet which was OLD csv -
when made new Excel - it merged lickety split (and no I don't know how fast
that is).
