Word Merges and Object Linking

I am trying to create a Word Merge document that includes a file path
field. I would like to use this file path to then Link and display
the contents of the file within my merge letters.

I am trying to do the following but the contents of the file does not
update for each new letter:

{Link Word.Document.8 { MERGEFIELD "szBallotTextPath2" } "" \a \f 0 \r
}

Is there anyway to pass in a File Path as a merge field and then open
and display the contents of the file. This file path would change for
each record and is an .rtf file.

We are using Word 2003.
