Word minimizes on opening document

When I open a document utilizing Word 2002, Word minimizes
and begins to flash in the taskbar, acting as if it was an
inactive window that had a task complete in the
background. This action isn't consistent but it can be
recreated with different documents. All help is
appreciated.
