Word modify password issue.

Have an odd issue pertaining to Word 2003 and OWA 2007. We have a Word 2003
document with a modify password saved on a file server. When opening the
document from Outlook 2007 or directly from the file share the client is
prompted for a password or for read only viewing. If the client opens the
file in a hyperlink through Outlook web access the file not only opens
without a prompt but opens with edit access. Does anyone know the cause or
fix for this issue?

Our systems include.
Office 2003 SP3
Outlook 2007 not service packed
XP SP2
Exchange 2007.

File is being hosted on a Server 2003 box with sp2 installed.

Could it be that when you open the file through OWA, you're not really
opening the file in question but download a copy onto your local machine?
