word needs 20-30% cpu resources on pb g4 1,25

hi
when my word 2004 is ideling in the back it still takes 20-30% cpu time. i
turned of everyhing like auto grammar check etc. does anyone have the
same prob? it makes it impossible to do other cpu intensive things when
running word in the backround.

Well, I don't have a PB, but I do have a 1.25GHz MDD G4 with 2GB of RAM, and
Word 2004 is barely using 6% of the CPU in the background.

What else do you have running? For me with a 1.3GHz PB, it's idling now
with about 8%. However, when I start something else CPU intensive, it
drops down to 2% or less.
