Word Nornal.dot

Every time I close word it comes up with "The file normal already exist. Do
you want to replace the existing file?"

Any suggestions on stopping this will be appreciated.

See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=291352 "You are prompt to save
the changes to global template Normal.dot every time you quit Word".
But DO NOT turn off the "Prompt to save Normal template" option, because
you always want to know when something is trying to change your
normal.dot template, and leaving this option enabled will allow you to
say yes or no to the changes.

Thanks for the assistance, unfortunately it did not work. I have checked my
computer for micro viruses and viruses with no luck. I can't seem to locate
why it continues to try and save the normal.dot. Anyone have any other
thoughts/suggestions.

If you are prompted to save the Normal.dot each time you exit Word
then something is modifying it each time Word starts or you are using
Norton AV and the "Office Plug-in" option found in Norton is causing
the behavior.

If you use Norton AV then go to Norton Options and in the
Miscellaneous section turn off "Enable Office Plug-in".

If that isn't it then more than likely you are encountering a
modification caused by an add-in.

If you are using Word from Works Suite then the Works Suite Add-in is
the cause. Uninstall the "Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word" in
Add/Remove Programs found in the Control Panel and that should take
care of the problem. Note you are not uninstalling Works, just an
add-in that supplies Works functionality to Word.

Otherwise go to Tools/Templates and Add-Ins and see if there are any
global templates or add-ins listed. If so they are located in your
Word\Startup folder or Office\Startup folder. If more than one, move
them one at a time and try starting Word after each file is moved out
of the folder until you determine which one is causing the problem.

The location of the Word\Startup folder can be found under
Tools/Options/File Locations. The Office\Startup folder can be found
in the installation path.
