Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Word is not opening. When I try to open any document created in word or when I try to open the application at all, I get an error message. I cannot access any of my files!

Would you care to let us know what your specific update levels of Office &
OS X are as well as *what* the "error message" reads?

The error message reads that Word has enountered a problem and needs to close. We're sorry for the inconvenience. Then it has the 'more information' 'send' and 'do not send buttons'.

I have used the word program since the update session on Feb 9th. I was using it last, before the problem occured, on Feb 10th to investigate the graphics buttons in the word program which I was not familiar with. I believe I got the message before I shut it down for the night, not realizing that it would not open the next time I tried. Thanks in advance. It may be something I can't resolve myself but it is quite debilitating.

Although I do appreciate the additional info you still have not indicated
the update level of Office itself -- everything you're referring to is Apple
product, not Microsoft, and there has been no Microsoft Office 2008 update
in Feb. That suggests to me that your problem may be the result of not
keeping Office updated & the error message points to the same cause.

If you're able to launch any of the Office apps go to Help> Check for
Updates & let AutoUpdate catch you up... You might also want to set it to
run Weekly or at least Monthly from now on.

If you're NOT able to launch any of the Office apps I'd suggest you go to:

HD/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0

where you'll find the Microsoft AutoUpdate.app file itself. Launch it
directly to have the updates applied. [Alternatively you could go to the
Mactopia Downloads site & follow the directions there:

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx

Click the Office 2008 link in the Products column, bottom of the page.]

Once the updates are applied (you may need both 12.2.0 as well as 12.2.3)
run Apple's Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions then restart your Mac
before attempting to launch any of the Office apps.

If you continue to have a problem reply with complete descriptive details so
you can be guided further as necessary.

Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage are functioning normally, it is only the word processing application.
Perhaps I've corrupted it in some way by messing around with the graphics? I appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

The version is 12.1.0.080409

This is your problem - Your installation of Office 2008 is more than TWO
MAJOR updates behind. There are no other "ideas" to offer until you follow
my previous points to update & repair disk permissions. You have not
"corrupted" the program nor did your use of graphics have anything to do
with your problem. I don't know how to say it more clearly:

1- Update Office 2008 to the 12.2.3 level as previously suggested
2- Run Apple's Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions afterward
