Word not responding to mouse clicks/Winword.exe

We are using Word 2000 SR1 on NT4SP6A desktops in a Novell Netware 4.11 environment

I have just one user who is experiencing an odd problem. For some reason (we haven't yet identified a pattern or trigger), she finds that Word no longer responds to mouse clicks. She can use keystrokes, however. But at the same time, she not only has a second Word window open on the taskbar (which is normal), but there is a second instance of Winword.exe running (per the task manager). This second copy works fine

Since we don't know what the trigger is, we can't force it to occur. For the same reason, having her login elsewhere, or having someone work there, isn't really a viable test. I know there's any number of things I can try, but I don't want to waste her time trying things that only might work..

I've tried every combo of word searches in the knowledgebase, but I found absolutely nothing

I've given her instructions to get out of this situation, but I'd really like to know what's causing it, and of course how to prevent it happening.

Hi Maurene

Two things to try:

1. Observe the user starting Word. Is it possible that she is
double-clicking something (and opening two instances of Word
simultaneously) instead of single-clicking?

2. Have a look at the shortcuts she is using to open Word (ie the
shortcut that is being launched by the Start > Programs menu, or Quick
Launch bar, or Office Shortcut Bar or whatever). Do they look right?
Maybe try re-creating one or more of them.

If the shortcuts to winword.exe include startup switches, you can find
them explained in the Word help item "Control what happens when you
start Microsoft Word".

Hope this helps.
