Word (not responding)

Is there still no solution to the Word lock-ups under Tiger? It happens
several times a day now.

Click on a .doc attachment in an email... from the Open menu... click on
an open doc from another application... any of these can trigger the
spinning beachball from which the only escape is a Force Quit, which
shows "Word (not responding)".

Is this related to the font issues? Maybe, but I cleaned most of the
font caches and it made no difference.

Was it the hack that allowed Audio HiJack to access word files? Nope.
Disabled that, no matter.

I know that other users are facing this, and I know that I'm not getting
any love from Microsoft support on it.

Sure would be nice to use an application that didn't require me to smash
it to the ground several times aday, each time risking losing unsave
dchanges and forcing the Recover process on open docs.

And, in particular, remove your OS 9 fonts (unless you need them for
something). When you're finished with this, quit Word, drag your Office
font cache to the trash as well as the System font caches. Don't empty the
trash! Log out and do a system reboot. Now empty the trash.

The caches to trash are these (and try the first two before trashing any
others):

Com.apple.ATS.plist (Home/Library/Prefs)
Com.apple.ATS ( /Library/Caches)
FontTablesAnnex ( /System/Library/Caches)
All other files whose names include .ATS or font found in
/System/Library/Caches, especially com.apple.ATS.System.fcache and
com.apple.ATSServer.FODB_System

Please report back on your results.
