Word Not Responding

D

when I have one document open and then open a second in order to cut
and paste a portion from the second, the pinwheel starts spinning. At
that point, I have to force quit Word.

(I've learned to take a screen shot just before I force quit so I can
retype what I lost. It's a lousy work-around, but, it works.)

Interestingly, sometimes when I reopen Word and open the second
document first, I can cut the paragraph out and then reopen the first
and paste the item in.

I'm using Word 2008, 12.2.1 on a PBP with 4MB ram running OSX 10.6.1

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Don

The first step is to run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions then shut
down [not Restart] the Mac. Wait about 1-2 minutes before starting up.

If conditions don't improve, try running Word in a different User Account to
see if the same behavior persists.

Also, Quit all programs then log out & hold the Shift key while you log in.

Reply with your results form the last two suggestions if the first steps
don't resolve the problem.

Don

Bob,

ran the Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions and shut down. That
didn't change the situation.
I'm the only one who uses this computer so I don't have sharing turned
on for documents so I didn't take the time to try your second step.
Did try the third tho, and that seemed to fix the problem, at least on
the one file I identified as causing the issue.

What does holding the shift key down while logging in do?

thanks for the tips.

Both step #2 & #3 are diagnostic/troubleshooting methods, not fixes, and one
doesn't do much good without the other :)

The "clean" user account has absolutely nothing to do with how many people
actually use the computer... [I am the only one who uses my MBP but I have
created 5 separate user accounts.] It will help isolate where the problem
lies if we determine whether the problem follows into a different account.
