Word not working on Mac

D

Diane_Shipman

Hi,

Just got a Mac, and it came with MS Office preinstalled. I was exploring and thought I'd move the Word icon to my desktop for easy access. Did so. But when I click on it, I get an error message saying MS Word cannot load the Microsoft Office Shared Libraries. The files may have been moved from their original locations. (Duh.) Do the following: Move Word back to the original Office folder or the folder where it was originally installed - or - Reinstall Word to make sure all files are reinstalled correctly.

Well, I don't remember where I got the file from. I found the Office folder, but when I try to move the icon back in there, it snaps back to the Desktop. I miss Word! Can anyone help me get it back?

Thank you!

Hi Diane:

Thanks for adding your name ‹ makes the whole place much more friendly :)

You have not said which version of Word you have, so I am going to guess
that it is Word 2004. In which case, you may be running on the Test Drive
version?

If you are, it may have expired. Let's hope it's not that.

1) In the Finder, navigate to your "Applications" folder.

2) Scroll down to the "Microsoft Office" folder, and tell me the year
number you find on the end of the name? That will help me figure out what
to do...

3) In that folder, you will find the "Microsoft Word" application.
Double-click it.

Word should now start, and after that, it will be able to find its shared
libraries, and it will record their position for future reference :)

You may get the error again. In which case you are missing some essential
updates.

Go to the www.microsoft.com/mac page and download the appropriate update for
your version. If you are using Word 2004, you need update 11.3.5 first,
then everything after that, in numbered order.

Hope this helps

Another thought.

If you actually found the word application icon (not an alias) then you
need to place it back in the original folder within the applications folder.

Hi Phillip:

Good thought!! Yes, that would account for the symptom, wouldn't it...

Cheers
