Word (office 04) disappeared from my applications....

Something really weird happened to my computer few days ago. It was
downloading a office 2004 update (it does it automaticallya). during
the download I tried to open a word file. I got a message sayng that I
should close word during the update. So I did. I tried to close Word
but the computer froze and I had to force quit and restart the
computer. When I restarted it, Word was gone. I can't find the
application, I can't open any word file (they don't even have the word
icon any more). It looks like it is gone completerly....
does anybody know why it happened and what I should do next?

Hi,

your update went wrong, and your trying to open a file during the update may
not have been entirely unrelated. Download the 11.3 updater from Mactopia
<http://tinyurl.com/nj23g> and apply it manually. See if the problem's gone
afterwards; if it hasn't, I'd recommend removing and re-installing Office,
then re-applying the 11.3 update manually. To remove Office, use the Remove
Office tool in Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove
Office.

If anything's unclear, or if the problem persists, just post back.

At the root level of the hard drive, is a hidden folder called "lost+found".
The 'lost+found' directory is created by fsck if it finds orphaned files
during the boot process, or by the user running Disk Utility.

Do a search for Microsoft Word and include invisible files. If you find Word
there make the file visible and move it back to your Applications folder.

If not, you will need to reinstall Office. I suggest using "Remove Office"
and then run the installer. Be sure to have your CD Key. Run updates before
trying to use.
