word office 11: no normal.dot ???

B

Benjamin Adnam

hi there,
i am using office 11 or also called office system 2003 with sp1 installed

it seems i don't have a normal.dot file on my computer. at least i can't
find the file using file search in windows explorer ...

when i try so save a word document giving it the name normal and selecting
to save it as a template it says "word cannot give a document the same name
as an open document. type a different name for the document you want to
save. (C:\Documents and Settings\...\normal.dot)"

but at the given location i can not see a file called normal.dot. my
explorer is set to show all files including system and hidden files so it
it's there i should see it.

so i am a little confused ...

- where is my normal.dot ?
- if it's on my computer why can't i see it ?
- what can i do to see it and edit it ?

thnx
