Word - Office 2003

I've had XP home version for couple of years now, and from January I've also
had Office 2003. XP is great and until recently Word 2003 been great, but now
the whole programme seems to have a mind of its own.
1. I'm unable to use page set up: whatever I do the margins etc remain as
before. I prefer 2cm margins, yet on the right I've 3 inch margins and
nothing I can do to alter it.

2. If I want to use Tools -> Customize and eg specify f5 as the command for
bold, or f6 for underline (I've always done this before), I get some message
about Word Perfect commands. I don't even have a Word Perfect on my PC.

3. If I want to delete a block of text I can't just do it as before without
typing Y(es)

4. If I insert pictures (clip art or one of my own) I cannot see the picture
unless I go into print preview.

Generally all normal editing an formating on Word 2003 seems to have stopped
functioning.

What can I do...I use the PC a lot and this is driving me crazy

thank you some sane person for helping me out

Well, I can help with at least (2) and (3): on the General tab of Tools |
Options, clear the check boxes for both items that refer to WordPerfect.

As for 4, see if http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/DrwGrphcs/InvisibleGraphics.htm
helps at all.

When you are changing the margins, is this for a single document, or are you
trying to make it the default? If for a single document, do you have Track
Changes enabled? If so, Word will leave extra margin space on the right to
allow for the "balloons." If the default, and if you have checked "Default"
after making the changes, it may be that Word is not saving (being prevented
from saving) Normal.dot, where these settings are stored. If you are running
Adobe Acrobat 7, see the last portion of

Hi
MANY THANKS!! Most of my problems seem to have disappeared. Thank you.
Just one more question. Neither the vertical nor horizontal rulers are
visible. The horizontal ruler seems as if it's under the toolbar, and the
vertical ruler appears to have disappeared into the edge of screen. If I
point at the toolbar, or the edge, the rulers do appears after few seconds
but dissappear again. They use to be visible ..and they are ticked in the
Tools/Options/View so should be showing.
How do I solve this?
Many thanks again

Hi, I've just solved the ruler query and the rulers are now in place.
However, although my margins show as being set at 2cm, any typing stops at 4
cm on the right side of the document.. I cannot type anything beyond that
point and basically end up with a 4 cm margin, although the ruler shows it to
be 2cm.
What causes this? What can I do about it?
Many thanks

No indentation is set. When I open a new document the margins are set at 2cm.
When typing just normally the "cut-off-point" is at about 4cm and the typing
moves to next line. Regardles of what I do I cannot type to the edge (ie 2cm)
at the right side of the paper
Many thanks for the info

Possibly there's an invisible text box, frame, or AutoShape in the right
margin?

As a test, start WOrd in Safe Mode. From the Start, Run box type in

winword /a

and press enter. Now open a new blank document and test again. Is it OK in
Safe Mode?
