Word--Office 97

In the process of working on an article for a newsletter
yesterday I was locked out of Word. Had opened and closed
the file several times with no problem. Sent it to a
committee member and she received it with no problem.
When I tried to open it again to add her comments, I got a
message about an error in the application.
I have the CD that I think came with the computer (MS
Office 97 Professional Edition)and wondered if I should
uninstall Word and then reload it.
(The problem seems to be only Word; I can use Publisher
okay.)
thanks

No don't. Reinstalling or uninstalling/reinstalling rarely resolves the
problem.

Try opening Word from the Start, Run command by entering

winword /a

and press OK. If Word starts now, there's a good chance you just have a
corrupt normal.dot. Search for normal.dot on your hard drive and rename it
as normal.bad. Start Word again and test.
