I'm getting numerous ActiveX errors when I open Word 2003. Has anyone
ever used PC Rescue or another such program to fix such errors?

I get the following, among other things:

"This application is about to initialize ActiveX controls that might be
unsafe. If you trust the source of this document, select Yes and the
control will be initialized using your document settings."

Right-click on the Word icon, select Properties and under the Shortcut Tab,
in the Run windows select Maximised.

Don't bother with them. This sounds like it is most probably your Anti Virus
setup or perhaps your firewall setup. If you start Word in Safe Mode, does
it stop the errors? From Start, Run, type in

winword /a

and press enter. This starts Word in its default install mode bypassing all
add-ins, custom templates, macros, etc.

I have already tried that and it still is minimized. What appears is the
Word logo and Doc...the minus the maximize and the x to close. If I click
the Maximize square, word opens fine. Any other method and it just opens
with what I stated above. I have not uninstalled and re-installed office
yet, because I thought there was some setting I had wrong, but maybe not.

What happens if you open in Safe Mode. From Start, Run, type in

winword /a

and press return. Does Word open full window now?

If the Taskbar button offers you the choices Maximize and Minimize, but
Restore is dimmed, then the application is opening in a normal window
offscreen. Open any other window, then right-click on an empty area of the
Taskbar and choose Cascade. This should bring the Word window back in view.
Use the mouse to move and size it to your preference, then quit Word. When
you restart Word, the window should be where you left it.
