Word only shows as open but not full screen- How to Fix?

When word is open the file it shows on the bottom of the screen as open but
the full page does not open. The application cannot be closed other than by
CTL/ALT/DEL and then it gives a message that a file is waiting for a user
response-Any ideas as to how to fix?

It is probably open off screen. Open two documents and then right-click in
the Taskbar and choose one of the tile options. Close one of the documents
and then position the open document into its correct place.
