word opening slowly

Hi
I recently have had a problem with my Microsoft Word. It is taking 30 seconds to a minute to open. It started happening after I ran a disk defrag. on my computer, but I don't think that is it. I know of others who are having the same problem, and Word just starts to run slowly. No other office programs do this. I have run SpyBot and AdAware. I have Norton Anti-Virus, and I have no viruses. I am a student, and like all the students who live on campus, we are connected to a network. Is it possible that this is a virus? I contacted the university computer help desk, but we could not find anything to fix it (even a system restore). I was wondering if you had any other customers with the same experiences and how I could fix it. Thank you very much
Sincerely
Liz

When I changed the name of Normal.dot. Word opened fine. However, the second time I went to open Word it did it again. When I went back into the folder where Normal.dot was, another one had been created. How do I fix that? Also, how do I uncheck the Norton AV Office Plug-in option? Thank you for the help!

1. Open Norton AntiVirus (right-click on the Systray icon and choose this
option).

2. Click on the Options button at the top of the dialog.

3. In the Options dialog, click on Miscellaneous (menu on the left)

4. Clear the check box for "Enable Office Plug-in."

Note that Word will always create a new normal.dot. You can't 'fix' that.
This isn't the problem. The problem is almost certainly the Norton AV Office
Plug-in - see Suzanne's post.

I deactivated the office plug-in option in Norton, and it was fixed. Thank you so much for your help! This is a great service! Thank you again. Have a good day :)
