Word opens but does not display

Hello all

I have office XP Standard the Academic Edition. I usually use Outlook for my email and Word to edit emails. This morning out of the blue, they stopped working. Here is what happens. I can load Outlook and retreive email but if I try to write any emails it opens the editor but does not display the window. In other words, the little box appears in the Windows XP task bar but does not display anything on the screen. Same with Word. When I open Word the splash screen appears and the box in the Task Bar but no window on the desktop.

Any ideas? All my other Office XP application work like a charm...just Word is screwed up

This sounds like a problem that regularly popped up with Word 97 - the Word
window is floating off the screen. If you right-click on the icon in the
task bar, what happens if you maximize the window?

Which service packs (updates) have you applied to Office XP?

Thank you for your reply

When I right click on the task bar button I get the standard right click menu of minimize, maximize, move, size, and close. I have tried all of these with no luck. I have installed all the service packs up to and including service pack 3. I also applied all the other updates that have come along in the last few months from Microsoft's Office Update service

Try right-clicking on the task bar and cascading windows.

Thanks Charles

I found that if you right click on the task bar button and click move. Immediately left click and drag until it appears then you can maximize the window. Dont forget to close it then to save the possition. Thanks for all the help and I hope this helps someone else
