Word Opens Part Way Then Freezes My Computer

When I try to start my Word program it opens part way,
freezes, sometimes says this program has performed an
illegal operation, and freezes up my computer so I have to
restart the computer. I have removed and reloaded Word
and the problem persists. Does anyone have any answer.
