Word opens with Macros

For a while, all my word documents open with "this document contains macros" if I say enable macros, word crash immediately.
If I say disable macros, i can not save the document again, as i am being told it is only a "read only version" and I then have to save the document under a new name.

Does anyone know how I can disable this function?

Thanks

I'm having the same problem with documents containing "macros." I was told to come to this site to find help for this problem but I see no one has an answer yet.

This is really annoying and time-consuming. Can someone help?

Thanks!

Before anyone can offer specific suggestions you'll need to supply more
exact info:

Update level of Office (full dot number such as 11.4.1)
Update level of OS X (same detail as above)

Does this happen with all files or just certain ones? Are these files you've
created yourself on the same system with the same version of Word? Or are
they files you've received from other users - possibly using a PC version of
Word? Do the files actually contain macros?

Have you tried restarting your computer?

What happens if you hold the Shift key while opening one of these files?

Have you tried working from a new user account?

Unfortunately, you have found the only method there is in Mac Word of
working around this problem.

The problem is that the document contains PC-Word macros. Mac Word 2004 can
not handle everything that is possible in a Word -PC macro, and sometimes,
they WILL crash Word.

The file is "read only" because "You" have got it open! You will have to
use Save As and assign a different file name :)

Sorry: there's no other way around this.

Cheers
