Word OSX QUITS on start, SUITCASE caused it?

What I have appears to be a font issue, but Word crashes immediately on
startup {OSX current version Word, Panther 10.3.2}. The problems started
after I used Suitcase 11.02 to manage System and User fonts. It wasn't a
problem until that time. Now Word is unusable. I deleted prefs and plists to
no avail.

I can start Word from another user, BUT the docs will not save, they just
cycle and spin.

I don' think I will be upgrading to the new Office unless there is a
credible fix for this problem. I basically turned off all extra fonts, and
the problem still exists. Then I dragged and reinstalled system fonts, but I
appear to be stuck in Word limbo.

Any suggestions folks?

I suspect Suitcase activated fonts that are corrupted. This would sure
make Word crash.
You should disable some of the new fonts Suitcase activated to see
whether Word still crashes. It probably won't be any of the regular
system fonts.

Hi Jefferis:

Try this:

Turn ON every single font you have.

It may be that you have turned off the fonts that you do not use? For
example Verdana and Arial and Tahoma? Well, sorry about that: Word needs
those to draw its user interface, so it will get a little confused if they
are not available :)

You could also try deleting the Microsoft Office Font Cache and then
rebooting. When you reboot, OS X rebuilds its own font cache, then Office
rebuilds its own from that. If the problem is that Word is trying to access
a font that used to be available, that will fix it.

Cheers
