word pad will not open .doc files

Every time I try opening a .doc, email attachment, I get directed to word
pad, but instantly I receive an error message stating that, Word Pad has
cause an invalid page fault in MSWRD832.CNV.
I'd appreciate anyone who can help me to correct, whatever may be causing
this to happen.

can open simple Word documents, but can trip over Word documents
that have complex formatting. You might want to download and
install the free Word viewer from

And if you double-click a Word doc that's on your hard drive already, what
happens?
You may need to re-associate DOC files with Word.
