When starting new word document, page layout comes up in landscape. When I
try to change to portrait or any other modifications to page layout, I get
the message "Increasing right margin causes last column to become too narrow
in some sections having unevely spaced columns" - my document doesn't even
have any columns or tabs in it, just a single word. Rebooting hasn't helped
- Help ??

Locate and open your Normal.dot file as described in Method 1 in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm . Click
on Format | Columns | One | Apply to: Whole document | OK. Even
if "One" already appears to be selected, click on it anyway.
Type a character or two and delete what you just typed. Save the
Normal.dot file and close it.

I don't seem to have a normal.dot anywhere on my hard drive. Now What do I do?

Have you followed the instruction to display and search hidden files and
folders?

FOund the hidden normal.dot. Followed the instructions to rename it to
anything else, the started WORD and it created a new normal.dot which is
behaving correctly and "normal". Thanks for you help.
