The page of a new doc only measures 7 1/2" x 9 1/2".

Why not 8 1/2 x 11"?

Are you using an English version of Office? The default page size *is* US
Letter (8.5"x11"), but it's possible that it has been set to a different
default in your copy. However, I don't know of any standard paper size with
the dimensions you posted. Where are you seeing those measurements?

Before anyone can answer your question without simply sending you off in
several different "possible" directions you need to provide a bit more
detail. Keep in mind that nobody here can see over your shoulder or read
your mind [at least not with any degree of consistent accuracy:)].

Because you set it that way (or someone else did...)

Edit your Normal.dotm template and change it. Then each new document YOU
create will have the paper size you want.

Cheers

Thanks,

Did not work. This has happened on a old system and then I installed office 08 on a new G5 and the rulers still do not show 8 1/2 x 11.

OK. The Paper Size comes from two places: the Template that you created the
document from (usually, Normal.dotm) and the Printer Driver the document is
set to print to (usually, the default printer).

If this setting occurred on the old system, it would transfer to the new one
if you upgraded.

I suggest that you find and delete all instances of both Normal.dotm and
"Normal". The old version of Normal has no extension on the file name.

Word must be quit when you do this, otherwise it will simply write the bad
one back from memory when you quit.

I assume you are aware that this change will affect only documents that you
create from this point forward? Old documents that have picked up the bad
paper size will store it until you correct each one.

Ope this helps
