Word - Phantom tab in Level 3 Headings

I am getting a "phantom" tab at 2.1" in Level 3 headings (TOC 3) within a
Table of Contents. The tab does not appear under "tabs" when you click on
the style to modify it, but does appear on the line in the Table of Contents.
If you remove it manually, it reappears when you regenerate the Table of
Contents. The TOC 1 and TOC 2 lines are not affected (I only display levels
1-3). Any ideas? Anybody?

Are you getting that in all documents, or just that one? What version of
Word are you using?

Here -- in Word 2003 and Word 2007 -- I'm not seeing anything like that. All
of the TOC # styles use only a right-aligned tab to handle right-alignment
of page numbers (for when the user chooses that option).

My guess ordinarily would be that someone modified the TOC 3 style either in
that document or in the underlying template. Since you're not seeing the tab
in the style definition, my second guess would be document corruption or
template corruption.

If you're seeing it in new documents, too, what happens if you start Word in
Safe mode?
