word powerpoint spinning beach ball

A user called me and said that all of a sudden, his microsoft word x
file started having a spinning colored ball appear and he could not do
anything in the program. He forced quit, but does anyone know why this
is happening and what can be done about it? I removed his words
settings 10, but is there anything else that can be done? THis is
also happening in powerpoint. i also have downloaded the latest
service pack for office.

It could be because he has a Permissions issue.
He should use the Disk Utility application to repair permissions on the
boot volume and I would even suggest that he'd restart the machine.
Hopefully, that will take care of the spinning beachballs...
