i cant save print or highlight and drag without the pinwheel appearing
and word freezing. i talked to some tech people and they said it was
an issue with my preferences. does anyone know what it might be.
They were not being paid by the minute were they?
It is a bit impossible to set your preferences to totally beachball
Word. You might choose a few prefs to shave a few fractions of a second
here and there, but otherwise your prefs will be innocent.
Tell us a bit more.
Are any other applications misbehaving on save and print?
Have you been accessing files in Word across a network recently? Is it
well?
Recently I was seeing beachballs all over my wonder-gruntful MacPro. It
turned out to be an external firewire disk on its way to the great
bitbucket in the sky. The whole machine was waiting ever so politely
for the poor thing to recover from amnesia.
It is remotely possible that a single document may be so corrupted that
Word rummages about inside chasing its own tail till OS X throws the
beachball on screen. If it is just one, then the magic de-corruption
trick is to copy all but the very last paragraph mark and paste into a
shiny new document.
It might be that the corruption is in your "Normal" ‹ a global template
you will find in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data. Using Mac's finder
while Word is not running, rename it to something else. Try Word now.
The rename is to protect any customisations you might otherwise lose,
like your own recorded macros. You can just as easily trash it if you
are sure you have not put your own magic in there. Word will make a new
Normal the next time you quit Word.
