Word Prefs Change Themselves?

I had a problem with TypeIt4Me that I had a hard time tracking down.

It turns out that the problem arose because the Word Preference "Use
Smart Cut and Paste" was switched on.

Well it wasn't checked yesterday and * I* didn't check it. So somewhere
along the way Word had done it all by itself...

How come?

Hi MC -

Most likely Word didn't change it. There are 2 other possibilities which are
far more probable.

One is that there is something which is preventing the changed setting from
being updated in the Preferences file. It could be an antivirus program, an
add-in of some sort or some other third party "helper" program.

Another is that the Preference file itself is damaged & not retaining the
changed setting. This is the easiest to check ‹ Make sure Word isn't running
and follow the method on this page for testing your Preferences file:

If the new prefs file continues to not hold the settings then the first
possibility above will take a bit of investigation to nail down.
