word - problem pasting

It used to be that I could copy something, launched Word, then
pasted what I copied.

With this new version of Word (office 2003 sp2), I have to launch
Word first. If I copy first then launch Word, the paste option
would be grayed out. I have to go back and copy again before being
able to paste.

Anyway to make Word behave like it used to?

It is not Word itself that is doing this, rather some AddIn - part of
another product interfacing with Word.
