Word Problems - Virus, Not Klez.

Brent

While using Microsoft Word XP, more and more we are
experiencing a problem with the text in word. When
scrolling through a typed document, all of a sudden text,
whether it is one paragraph, three or how many ever, it
turns into squares and a bunch of jibberish. We have
tried converting it back into different readable fonts,
but with no success. I was told that this might be a
variant of the Klez virus, but when testing for this
virus, nothing was found. Is there another virus that
alters running Word documents?

Thanks,
Brent

We use Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition, with all
the latest updates. It does an automatic check for
updates and scan in the morning. The problem seems to be
spreading to different locations now, although the
problem might lie in the central server running Server
2000. It has happened to various Word XP documents, but
they are all located on the server. Does this help?

Thanks,
Brent

Hi Brent,

This came up several months ago and I think the last report was
Symantec's active scanning "real-time" protection could have something
to do with the problem.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

If you haven't done so, install SP4 for Windows 2000 server and make sure
that AVC is patched fully up to date with servicepacks.
