I want to put 'continued on page ...' at bottom of column and 'continued from page ...' at top of column ... how do I do that?

Word doesn't have a "continuation notice" feature - its default document
structure doesn't justify having one. That type of feature is normally found
in desktop publishing & page layout software for situations where a story
begins on one page & continues on another further on in the document.

If the content flows from one column to the next continuation notices are
superfluous & hinder readability.

As Bob says, you can't do this automatically, you have to add these
manually.

If you insert cross-references to bookmarks on the next and previous page,
you can get the page number to update automatically.

"Continued on page <cross reference to book mark on next page>"

Hope this helps
