word program error

the following error message appears whenever trying to
start word 2000 (with all of the latest updates):

<process has already exited> has generated errors and will
be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled office 2000 and
downloaded the updates but the issue never changes.
Word is the only office program with this issue.

I would very much appreciate your help.
