Word Protected Form

I have created a word template and inserted text form field options for
drop down listings. I then protect the document. What I would like to
insert is a button that links to another document that gives the
specification of a particular item. For example:

I have different sizes of equipment but each piece of equipment has its
own specification. The drop down list only lists the equipment but I
need the user to be able to click on a button on the document to open
up the spec sheet. How do I do this? I can insert ahyperlink no
problem but of course as soon as put protection on it I cannot click on
it to open the linked document. Any ideas?
