Word quits in OSX (10.1.5)

Let me give you a run-down about what I've been doing. problems
started with a .doc file that I'd been working on for about a week.
word suddenly started quitting while trying to enter more text. the
problem kept repeating until finally word wouldn't open at all. I
deleted word, re installed it from the CD, fixed permissions, zapped
pram, and it still quits while trying to use this one file. I have no
problem using other files (it appears). so I tried copying and pasting
the contents to text edit and saving the file there. then I quit text
edit, and tried to open the file in word. it opens, but it's not long
after I start typing again that word "suddenly quits, but other
applications are unaffected."
I tried moving the templates folder to the desk top and installed a
new one from the Office CD, but that doesn't seem to have had any
effect. I looked for and couldn't find the MS User file/folder.
I don't know what to do other than re type the entire document from
scratch...

Probably the document is corrupt?

The first way to check for a corrupt document is to
copy the entire thing, *excluding* the last paragraph mark, into a new
document. That last paragraph mark holds a lot of information which can get
corrupted, and copying the text into a document with a fresh one keeps your
formatting, but can fix some glitches.

A paragraph mark is a gray ¶. Click on ¶ on the standard toolbar to show
nonprinting characters, including paragraph marks.
