Word quits on change to Spanish language

I have found, ever since the last update to Word, that it quits
whenever I switch to Spanish. I don't seem to have the same problems
with French. I prepare many documents in Spanish, so this is very
vexing.
Does anyone else have this problem, or know of a solution?

Sorry, nobody has a solution to this problem.

Language handling in Word 2008 is a train-wreck!

Try replacing your Spanish custom dictionary with one that is entirely
blank. That may fix it this time.
