my word has gone bananas lately. It quits every now and then (every
few minutes) and creates copies of the footnotes inside the footnotes
1, 2, 3, 4, and then the same again as 5, 6, 7, 8. please help!
Thank you

If always on the same document, see here:
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/DocumentCorruption.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Otherwise, run through the standard troubleshooting techniques here:
<http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm>
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Unless you have Word 98 or 2001, in which case look for links on the same
site that give troubleshooting for those versions, or post back for the
exact links.

You aren't using EndNote by any chance?

Hi Natalia:

Daiya's right, but I can be more specific.

You have a corrupted document (corrupted internal numbering structure,
otherwise known as trashed list templates).

The standard instant cure is to "Do a Maggie", so named after Maggie on the
PC-Word mailing list, who spent a lifetime patiently explaining to people
how to "copy all except the last paragraph mark, paste into a brand new
empty document, and save under a new file name."

If that doesn't fix it the first time, rename your Normal template and do it
again...

Cheers
