word quitting unexpectedly

all of the other office programs are working on my powerbook g4 except
word, i have updated everything, and also repaired disk permissions,
it was working fine a few days ago and nothing unexpected happened, i
just cannot open word anymore.

I just installed Panther and Word is back to crashing on startup
again.

However the good news is that under Panther TextEdit opens .doc
documents rather nicely. I've set it as the default to open Word
documents and have no more worries.

Hi Shaun,

You haven't mentioned if your version of Office/Word is fully updated (with
the 10.1.2, 10.1.4 and 10.1.5 updaters) nor which OS X you're in and if it
is fully updated.

Crash on launch problems in Word are often due to font conflicts or
corruption. You may find help here:
