Hi Kris:
My only "comment" would be that this makes sense. Word is a Carbon
application. The Carbon Registration Database tells Word where the bits of
Carbon it needs are. If Word starts up in a partition other than the boot
partition, it may be unable to find bits of the Carbon system, and that
would lead to crashes.
Creating a new user on the boot partition, then having Word write a
Registration Database while running from that user, will fill in the Carbon
module locations that Word could not otherwise find.
Word will correct the registration database to match the current user when
you copy it back in and start Word. But it will leave the entries that
would otherwise be missing.
Yeah, makes sense.
Then again, "not" having EndNote on the system also leads to far fewer
problems if you don't absolutely need it. The Cite While You Write feature
is a particular source of problems in some versions of Endnote.
Cheers

I tried the corrupt font etc. it didn't help. I tried the following
as instructed by Endnote support people.
Here are those instructions again.
Create a user whose Home is on the default partition.
Log in as that user and start up Word.
Now find the file "Carbon Registration Database" in that user's
Library and
copy it to their Public folder.
Now log out, and log back in as yourself and drag the "Carbon
Registration
Database" into your preferences, replacing the one already there.
After this, it has worked fine. I am keeping my fingers crossed. can
someone comment on this?
Thank you.
