Word Read only

A file sharing problem on a new Vista Business machine.

I have two XP Pro machines trying to open and save documents that are stored
in the Public folder on the Vista machine. Network Sharing says everyone that
has network access has full control of the documents, yet XP users can only
open NOT save the documents. Error is the files are read only.

I checked they are not read only.

Have same issue on network using Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP Pro WS.
Service Pack Versions aren't the answer
