Word reinstalls itself each time it's opened

We have WIN2000 Pro PCs set up by 2 different methods.
Two are by manual set up and the others are by an image.
We run a process that requires running a remote command
from another platform. We have a "ghost user" as admin
to the local machine that's used to run the process.
When the process runs (start winword.exe) from the other
platform, Word thinks it has to install Word each time on
the PCs that were set up with the image. The manual set
up functions properly without running the installer. We
have a lot of PCs built with this image. Please help!!
