Word replaces quotation marks and endashes with tildas

How do I turn off Word replacing a double quotation mark with a tilda and an
endash with a tilda?

Try going to: Tools, select AutoCorrect. Scroll down to the " (in the
first box) and see if the tilda is in the box "With" (the second box). If
so, remove the ", and the tilda.

I use Word 2000, so I'm not sure if it's the same in your version.
