I am running Word 2000 9.0.6926 SP-3 on Windows XP SP2 and accessing Word
documents from a server running Windows NT4.
Every time I access a document, Word shows a message saying 'Requesting
virus scan...' and it takes 30+ seconds to open.
I have scoured the web and percieved wisdom says turn off document scanning
in your anti-virus package (in this case AVG). In fact I have done more than
that and deleted all traces of my antivirus package including all registry
entries - my antivirus no longer exists!
In addition I am not running any form of software firewall (Zonealarm) and
have also disabled Windows Firewall.
I have rebooted 3 million times and STILL Word says 'Requesting virus scan...'
Does anybody know how to dump this 'feature' ? or is it a Microsoft bug that
they are not admitting to ?
I notice that there are several hundred similar requests for help on various
forums but I cannot find one workable answer.
Please help.
