Word resources dangerously low error

I am unable to open word get the " Resources low error ".
RAM ( 64% free )
Removed all saved docs, Run Norton 2004 no virus , Have
uninstalled and re installed to no avail.
I can work on everything else no problem but once I have
tried to open word and get the error masseage I get the
message on all aplications and have to re boot.

I didn't ask for help but I noticed that other people had
been having the same problems. I tried renaming
Normal.dot as per the link you provided and the thing
started working again! Many thanks!

One thing still bothering me. I've been away and I'm
beginning to wonder whether the template became corrupted
on April first... In other words, is it the work of a
virus?

Not necessarily, and not even "probably" -- Word is perfectly capable of
screwing up by itself -- but it isn't worth wondering; just make sure you
have the latest signature file for your antivirus scanning program and let
it scan all your files. The full scan should be scheduled at least weekly,
in addition to automatically scanning all incoming files.
