Can anyone tell me please why Word 2000 (9.0 3821 SR-1) on
my daughters Dell lap top running Windows ME insists on
saving normal.dot every time she exits Word? It does it
even if she has made no changes. Straight into Word,
Straight Exit and the normal.dot saves. In fact, Word
also saves the document file she has opened on exit even
when she has made no changes.
The reason it is a problem to us is that every one time in
ten, Word complains that the normal.dot file is locked and
it cannot save the file. As a result it is impossible to
close Word and she losed all her edits in her document
file and has to start again.
I have tried to re-install Office from scratch twice using
all the system defaults and her laptop continues to adopt
this strange operation.
Strange thing is when the same version of Word is
installed on my Desktop PC, it does not exhibit any of
these symptoms and onlt saves the document or the
normal.dot file if changes truly have been made during the
session.
Please help!
