Word selects extra words when I select words across multiple lines

I hope I can describe this properly. If I'm selecting multiple words
across multiple lines of text, Word often will also select the word
BEFORE the original word.

As an example, in the previous sentence, if I want to select
everything from "words" to "BEFORE", and if I move my cursor too far
up or down, Word will also select the word "multiple".

I've turned off smart cut and paste and "automatically select entire
word" and it still happens. Does this happen to anyone else?

I'm using Word 2004 version 11.0.

Thanks!

Run Microsoft Autoupdate.

Alternatively, download Service Pack 1 from Mactopia.

Actually, this is a recognized bug that was fixed in the recent Office 2004
update (service pack 1). You can run AutoUpdate (under Help) to get the
updater, or download it from:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx

If you choose to download yourself (necessary to save the updaters), you
should run both:
Microsoft AutoUpdate for Office 2004 for Mac
Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Service Pack 1 (11.1.0)

I think the only consistent known bug caused by the updater occurs with
Adobe Acrobat installed, an compile error message in Excel, but see here for
various info:

Thank you! I thought I had the latest update already, but nope. I just
updated and everything works great.
