Word should allow image type conversions when pasting an image

Raymond McCrae

It is very common for me to receive word documents that contain screenshots.
The common way people do this is to press the "Screen Print" button on the
keyboard and then pasting the result into the document. However the problem
is that the images captured are bitmap images, so document gets very large
with just a few screenshots. Now it is possible to paste the result into an
image editor and the save it to a different format and then paste that into
the document. However that is a very roundabout to get what you want.
Additionally some of the people creating these document do not have the
understanding to do such a process. My suggestion is that when the user tries
to paste a bitmap image in Word, the user is presented with a dialog box
offering to convert the images to another format (e.g. GIF, JPEG, PNG,...).

Word already has this function.
Copy the image you want, go to Word and place the cursor where you want the
image/anchor, Edit Paste Special, you will now have several options and
amongst these are PNG, JPG, GIF.
Hope this helps

There is another problem associated with this feature.
When you take a screenshot and paste it into a word doc, the default picture
layout is "In line with the text". And such an image can not have a line
around it. I mean we can not ensquare this image with a colored line. We need
to convert the image to "tight" layout" and only then we will be able to
ensquare the image with a colored line. I don't know why the colors and line
feature does not support the "in line with text" layout images.

Diwakar: You are correct in that the Line featue is grayed out in the
InLineWithText layout. But the Borders option is available instead, under
Format, Borders and Shading.
This is because the Word sees the InlineWithText as a Paragraph and Colors
and Lines features are not available to Paragraph items only Object items.
Hope this helps
