word shuts down and restarts without prompting

Since 4/08, I have been using Windows 2007 Office Home and Studentwhich has
worked fine until 3 weeks ago. Now I get an error message that 'word has
stopped working' then the program closes and restarts. My documents are
recovered, but I need to correct so that I don't have to redo work lost.
Please help resolve this issue.
