WORD shuts down unexpectedly

Recently my WORD 2003 program has been shutting down in the middle of writing
a document (moe often recently.) Microsoft has NOT forwarded any explanation
or solution, and the resultant loss of data is becoming increasingly
frustrating. I am running XP on a P4, and the computer seems to have no
problems with any other program. Possible reasons? Solutions?
